On behalf of the Embassy of Indonesia and Museu de Oriente we invite you to celebrate Batik in Lisbon!  

In order to celebrate the tenth anniversary of recognising the Batik as the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity the Embassy of Indonesia is organising a set of events to promote Batik in Portugal.

What`s Batik? 

In Indonesia, Batik is regarded as both formal and casual wear as well as the inspiration for many contemporary haute couture. Many people often opt for the colourful and lightweight Batik in their daily attire, which is uniquely suited to the hot and humid weather of Indonesia. Different regions in the country are known for a specific Batik pattern and colour scheme.

BATIK EXHIBITION

September 14-16 | Lounge

14 Set | 10.00-12.30 | Opening Ceremony

A showcase of 31 peices of Barik from Yogyakarta province.

An opening ceremony will be free to public and will include a dance performance - Gebyar Batik.

 

BATIK WORKSHOP

14 Sept | 15.00-18.00 | Educational Service Room

Understand the history of batik, its manufacturing process and techniques, as well as the meaning of the patterns and motifs.
